Two women died in Dehradun on Thursday after being knocked down by a speedy bike on EC Road near Bharat Heart Hospital. Both women were relatives, and were on their way to hospital where husband of one of the woman was admitted for heart operation.
The accident occurred outside the Bharat Heart Hospital. Two victims were crossing the road when the bike in full speed hit them. Both died on the spot. According to Dehradun police, the injured were rushed to the nearby hospital but were declared brought dead. The deceased were identified as Pavitri Devi, 52, and Neelam Rawat, 42. They were natives of Mori area in Uttarkashi, and were presently living in Suman Nagar Dharampur. Their bodies were later sent for post-mortem.
The police revealed that Pavitri Devi, wife of Bhajan Singh, was going with her sister-in-law to hospital, where Bhajan Singh was to undergo a heart operation on Thursday.
The accused was identified as Ankit, 19, resident of Purola, Uttarkashi. He is currently studying in a Mussoorie based college. Police has arrested the accused, and registered a case against him under appropriate sections of IPC. According to police, the accused doesn’t have a driving license. The bike belongs to Suraj Chauhan, a resident of Subhash nagar, Clement Town. Dehradun police is also going to register a case against him for providing his bike to a person who doesn’t have a driving license.
So far, 48 people have died in road accidents in Dehradun district in 2017. Police registered 122 cases of road accidents, of which 43 were fatal accidents. One hundred twenty-two people were also injured in these accidents.
