Delhi Public School (DPS) Indirapuram has unveiled a state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics Laboratory designed to immerse students in the world of emerging technologies.
The lab, equipped with humanoid robots, Nvidia Jetson computing systems, drones, and various robotic kits, aims to provide practical, hands-on experience, aligning with India’s national push to integrate AI and robotics into school curricula.
The initiative comes as interest in AI education surges nationwide, with nearly eight lakh CBSE students in grades 11 and 12 opting for AI courses in the 2024-25 academic year, according to Union Ministry of Education data.
The cutting-edge facility was inaugurated on Wednesday, April 23rd, by Aman Gupta, co-founder and CMO of boAt Lifestyle and a familiar face from Shark Tank India.
Gupta was joined by school board members Abhishek Bansal and Girish Kumar Sachdev, along with Principal Priya Elizabeth John.
“Through this pioneering lab, DPS Indirapuram aims to empower students with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in AI and robotics,” the school stated in a press release.
They said the goal is to create a skill-based learning environment that prepares students “for the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow,” covering everything from foundational concepts to coding and building functional robots.
Girish Sachdev, a member of the school’s board, outlined the global effort involved in establishing the lab. DPS Indirapuram collaborated with companies from the US, Dubai, and China to procure advanced equipment.
Crucially, the school has also brought in specialized trainers from countries like Jordan to bridge the gap between international and Indian curricula and ensure effective instruction.
“It took us six to eight months to conceptualise this project,” Sachdev explained, detailing the extensive research and global survey undertaken.
“These trainers will train teachers for every module… The major aim is to provide and let students utilise the equipment on an international level and take them to international competitions.”
The lab’s resources, including computers equipped with Nvidia’s Jetson platform for edge AI and robotics programming, are intended to move students beyond theoretical knowledge.
Dana Alsani, AI and Robotics Training Manager at EdNex (a Dubai-based firm partnering with the school), stressed the importance of practical application.
Principal Priya Elizabeth John spoke of the excitement generated by the lab among students, teachers, and parents. “We’ve always evolved ourselves to give children nothing but the best. Our teachers have been undergoing AI training as well,” she said.
Importantly, access to the lab and its resources will be integrated into the standard curriculum without additional charges. AI is already a mandatory subject for grades 6-10 under the CBSE framework, with options for grades 11 and 12.
