Tim Peake Says Happy St David’s Day to People of Wales

 March 1, 2016

British astronaut Tim Peake has sent a special video message for the people of Wales wishing them Happy St David’s Day.

The 43-year-old astronaut began his message by saying “Croeso” and “iechyd da”.

“I’d like to wish you all a very happy St David’s Day. Iechyd da.” Tim said.

“From leading the spire instrument on the Herschel space craft, to providing most of the glass for the solar panels on the International Space Station, Wales is an important part of our UK space community.”

“And from up here, it’s also beautiful looking down on Snowdon, the Brecon Beacons and the Valleys.”

British Astronaut Tim Peake Talks with Students from the City of Norwich School

Ten students from the City of Norwich School spoke to Tim Peake on Tuesday while the British astronaut was passing 250 miles overhead, aboard the International Space Station.

It was amateur radio enthusiast Tim Hare who established the connection with ISS.

Students asked several question to Major Peake, such as ‘what happens to the blood if you cut yourself in space’ and ‘what’s your favorite place to fly over’?

Major Peake revealed that he had not been dreaming much since his arrival on ISS. He also revealed that Africa and north Canada are his favorite locations to look down on Earth from space.

“It has been wonderful speaking to everyone in Norwich this afternoon. Thank you for these wonderful questions.” Tim said.

Major Peake also participated in a scientific experiment conducted to observe the effect of low-pressure environment on his lungs.

“Living in space is not easy on the human body.” Major Peake wrote in his blog posted on Twitter, where he described the experiment.

“Over millions of years humans have evolved to live with gravity; take it away and our bodies adapt and cope remarkably well, but I still need to monitor almost every aspect of my health up here….” Tim said.

“On the Moon and Mars it will be worse because, although there is gravity, it is weaker than on Earth and there is a lot more very fine dust, which also sticks to astronauts due to static electricity.” he explained.

Tim Peakes Street Transformed to a Gravity-free Zone

18 Feb 2016

In February, theme park giant Alton Towers Resort transformed British astronaut Tim Peake’s street into a gravity-free zone to demonstrate how zero gravity works in reality. Tim Peake is currently orbiting the Earth, while on board the International Space Station (ISS).

For Tim’s neighbors, it was an amazing experience watching post boxes, cars, benches and real people floating off the ground.

The street was temporarily renamed ‘Gravity Avenue’, and was visited by students from Tim’s primary school.

Tim has been on board ISS since 15 December 2015 and had earlier stated that it takes some time to get used to zero gravity conditions.

According to Tim, after arriving on ISS, astronauts need some time “to get orientated because quite often…you suddenly lose your sense of direction.”

“The nation has been captivated by Tim Peake and his mission to the International Space Station, so what better place to bring the experience of space travel to life than his home street!” stated Gill Riley, Marketing Director at Alton Towers Resort.

“And in April, the experience of space travel will be even closer, as Galactica launches its first mission to space – from Staffordshire.”

“We want to help make space exploration a reality for the next generation of British space enthusiasts, which is why we have partnered with the National Space Centre. Over the next 12 months, we will support their education program so more children get the chance to learn about the universe and its hidden wonders.” Riley said.

Tim Peake Says Happy Birthday to His Wife Rebecca

 6 Feb 2016

British astronaut Tim Peake has wished his wife Happy Birthday while being on board the International Space Station (ISS).

“I would like to say a very happy birthday to the most amazing person I know, Rebecca, my wife.” Major Peake said.

“She’s an incredible mum to my two active boys. I love her to bits. And she listens to your show every day so she’ll be thrilled to hear this message. Happy Birthday Rebecca.”

Tim also called Radio 2, and dedicated the song “I Just Called to Say I Love You” to Rebecca.

Major Peake described Rebecca as an incredible mother to their two boys.

Tim Peake to Perform a Spacewalk on January 15

7 Jan 2016

British astronaut Tim Peake will carry out his first spacewalk along with Tim Kopra on January 15, according to NASA. Both astronauts will replace a faulty voltage regulator during this outing.

“I am thrilled at this opportunity for a spacewalk.” Tim said.

“Maintaining the International Space Station from the outside requires intense operations – not just from the crew, but also from our ground support teams who are striving to make this spacewalk as safe and efficient as possible.” he added.

Tim revealed that the team on board ISS working on to make tools and equipment ready for the spacewalk.

The voltage regulators on ISS – precisely called the sequential shunt units – are used control power from solar arrays. One of the SSU which failed last November had “compromised one of the station’s eight power channels.”

British Astronaut Tim Peake Wishes “Beautiful Planet Earth” a Happy New Year 2016

3 Jan 2016

British astronaut Tim Peake has wished everybody on Earth a Happy New Year 2016.

“Hello UK and welcome on board the International Space Station. Up here we work on Greenwich Mean Time, which means we will be celebrating at the same time as everybody else in the UK.” Tim said in a message that was beamed to screens at the Edinburgh Hogmanay event.

“Unique Events” organizes the Edinburgh’s Hogmanay event on behalf of Edinburgh City Council.

“I would like to wish everybody on our beautiful planet earth a very fun New Year’s Eve and happy, healthy 2016. Happy New Year.” Tim said.

Tim Peake Posts His First Picture of Earth from Space

 19 Dec 2015

British astronaut Tim Peake has posted his first, stunning pictures of Earth from space.

“Photo from today – not much chance to play with the camera yet! Goodnight from space.” Tim said.

“We always talk about seeing the view of planet earth and how beautiful it is so you come to expect that.” Peake said.

“What people don’t mention that much is when you look the opposite direction and you see how dark space is – I mean it’s the blackest black and you see how small the Earth is in that blackness. That was a real surprise to me.”

Since his arrival on ISS, Tim Peake has also retweeted a message from musician Paul McCartney.

“Congratulations on your great journey. My family is very excited and I am living your journey vicariously through you. Great stuff, have a brilliant, interesting and peaceful   time up there. Enjoy the view!” Paul McCartney had tweeted.

In reply Tim said: “It seems that space and music have something in common when it comes to breaking down barriers – certainly all the crew on the International Space Station are Beatles fans and were equally delighted when I told them you had written! With best regards (from somewhere over the Pacific!)”.

Tim Peake to Participate in London Marathon from Space

6 Dec 2015

Tim Peake has said that he will be taking part in the London Marathon from space.

The 26.2 mile Digital Virgin Money London Marathon will take place on Sunday 24 April, and Tim will also start his race at 10:00 GMT, much like thousands of other participants.

“The London Marathon is a worldwide event. Let’s take it out of this world.” Major Peake said.

During the race, Tim will have a digital video of entire course in front of him, and his ipad will tell how fast the astronaut is moving.

“The thing I’m most looking forward to is that I can still interact with everybody down on Earth. I’ll be running it with the iPad and watching myself running through the streets of London whilst orbiting the Earth at 400 km above the surface and going 27,000 km per hour.” he said.

Tim also revealed that he will be using a harness system to strap himself down to the treadmill.

According to Tim, he will be running in space to raise awareness about The Prince’s Trust
