Microsoft has announced that its latest major update for Windows 11, version 24H2, also known as the Windows 11 2024 Update, has entered its final rollout phase and is now available for all compatible PCs.
“Windows 11, version 24H2, also known as the Windows 11 2024 Update, is broadly available. We have reached the last phase of the gradual rollout for version 24H2 via Windows Update on Settings,” Microsoft said in a post.
This significant update brings a host of new features and improvements to the Windows experience.
The update will be offered to all Windows devices not configured to defer feature updates, with Microsoft stating that the gradual rollout has reached its last stage.
Users with eligible devices will see an option to “Download and install Windows 11, version 24H2” in their Windows Update settings.
However, Microsoft noted that some devices might temporarily not see the update if an incompatibility is detected.
For users running Home and Pro editions of Windows 11 versions 23H2, 22H2, and 21H2 that are not managed by IT departments, the update to version 24H2 will be delivered automatically.
These users will have the flexibility to choose when to restart their device to complete the installation or postpone the update if needed.
It’s important to note that some upgrade blocks remain in place for PCs with certain hardware or software.
This includes systems with integrated cameras, Dirac audio improvement software, and those running security or enterprise software utilizing SenseShield Technology’s sprotect.sys driver.
Additionally, PCs with Easy Anti-Cheat or Safe Exam Browser applications may also experience an upgrade block.
Users can verify their system’s eligibility for the Windows 11 2024 Update by using the PC Health Check app or by reviewing the official Windows 11 specifications and system requirements on Microsoft’s website.
For those who wish to manually install the update, navigating to the Windows Update settings dialog and clicking “Check for Updates” should reveal the option to download and install, provided the device is ready and no safeguard holds are active.
Microsoft is also offering a guided walk-through and a support document to assist users with any potential upgrade issues.
The Windows 11 2024 Update introduces several notable new features, including:
- Additional AI-powered capabilities integrated into the operating system.
- An enhanced Energy Saver mode for improved power efficiency.
- Compatibility with Wi-Fi 7 technology for faster wireless networking.
- Improved Hearing Aid support featuring Bluetooth LE Audio.
- Support for HDR backgrounds, allowing for more vibrant desktop visuals.
- An updated Windows Search that can understand natural language queries.
