The South-West Monsoon, which has been delayed by some days, will reach Haryana and Punjab in next three days, a senior official from Chandigarh MeT department has said.
“Conditions are favorable for monsoon’s further advancement northwards approaching Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh in the next three days,” Director of the Chandigarh MeT Department, Surinder Pal told PTI here.
According to Mr. Pal, the monsoon is set to cover two states in next few days. This year, good rains are expected in two states. Last year, both states had received scanty monsoon rains.
This year, advancement of monsoon has been slow. On Saturday, Indian Meteorological department (IMD) said that delay of southwest monsoon is inevitable in northern India, and it will not arrive in Rajasthan before July 1.
“Conditions are favorable for the onset of monsoon as humidity levels are continuously increasing,” said an officer with the Met office, Jaipur.
In Mumbai, monsoon had reached on June 12, but since then its progress in very slow. Significant rains have been recorded in Mumbai in the last 24 hours. The rains in the city continued for the third consecutive day on Monday. In 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Colaba Observatory had recorded 67 mm of rain. Santa Cruz Observatory received 39 mm in the same period. Intensity of rains peaked between 6:30 am and 8:30 am on Monday. Light rains and thundershowers are still going on in the city, resulting in traffic jams across the city. Train service has also been disrupted due to heavy rains and water logging.
