IIT Ropar wins Rs 100 crore grant

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar has been awarded a significant ₹100 crore grant. This funding comes under the newly established Anusandhan National Research Foundation’s (ANRF) Partnerships for Advanced Interdisciplinary Research (ANRF-PAIR) initiative.

IIT Ropar stands among a select group of only seven institutions chosen from over 30 applicants across India to receive this substantial funding. This elite cohort includes two other IITs, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, two Central Universities, and one National Institute of Technology (NIT).

The grant serves as a major boost not only to IIT Ropar but also to the broader scientific ecosystem in Northern India. The institute is set to take the lead role in the newly formed DREAMS consortium, which stands for Dynamic Research Ecosystem for Advanced Materials Science.

The primary mission of the DREAMS consortium is to empower regional universities by upgrading their research infrastructure, fostering collaboration, and significantly elevating the standards of interdisciplinary research, specifically within the crucial field of Advanced Materials Science.

Operating on a hub-and-spoke model, IIT Ropar will function as the central hub. It will coordinate and support activities across seven partner institutions spread throughout Northern India. These partner institutions, forming the spokes of the consortium, are:

  • Himachal Pradesh State University (Shimla)
  • Kurukshetra University
  • Panjab University (Chandigarh)
  • Central University of Himachal Pradesh
  • Central University of Rajasthan
  • Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (Katra)
  • Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University (Bareilly)

This initiative, backed by the ANRF’s considerable investment, signals a strong commitment to strengthening research capabilities beyond established centers and fostering a more dynamic and collaborative scientific network across the region, with IIT Ropar playing an important role in driving this vision forward.
