Uber Offers UberFleet App in India to Increase Fleet Efficiency

Uber has launched an android app UberFleet for its fleet partners in India to increase its fleet efficiency.

The app – created to improve the overall productivity for fleet owners – will help drivers run more fleets and achieve maximum efficiently.

According to Uber, the app will reduce driver’s downtime and make the process of driver management more efficient.

“UberFleet allows fleet partners with driver positioning, helping drivers achieve maximum performance and overall, run their fleets more efficiently,” said Apurva Dalal, Head of Engineering, Uber India.

“Uber is at forefront of micro-entrepreneurship opportunity creation in India and UberFleet app is yet another step towards encouraging and supporting the entrepreneurial ambitions of our fleet partners,” he added.

The main features of the app include live map, driver status logs, and driver performance dashboard.

In June this year, Uber rival Ola had also rolled out a similar fleet management app called Ola Operator that also offers features like monitoring real-time location of a driver, their pick up & drop-off locations, on & off hours, earnings reports and others.

Headquartered in San Francisco, California, Uber is an online transport network company that allows consumers to use Uber app on their smartphones to submit a trip request. The submitted request is automatically sent to an Uber driver nearest to the consumer through software. Uber drivers use their own personal cars to provide the transport service to the consumers. The far is calculated automatically by the Uber app, and transferred to driver. As of August 2016, Uber was providing service in over 66 countries and 545 cities worldwide. Uber was founded in 2009 as UberCab by Garrett Camp and Travis Kalanick. The company was able to receive $200,000 in seed funding in 2009 and then raised $1.25 million in additional funding in 2010.

Many people, taxi companies and even governments challenge the legality of Uber, alleging that drivers working for Uber are not licensed to drive taxicabs and therefore pose risk to the lives of customers. However, many taxi drivers now prefer working for Uber as they can earn a good amount of money through Uber during “surge” periods.
