Thirteenth Edition of Three-day World Robot Olympiad to Begin in Delhi on November 25

India is all set to host its first World Robot Olympiad – a three-day international event that will be held at the India Expo Mart, Greater Noida, starting November 25.

The event is being organized for the first time in India and about 2,000 students (from 54 counties) will participate in the event. The event is being organized by National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) in association with the India STEM Foundation (ISF).

This science, technology, and education event aims to find solutions to reduce, manage and recycle waste with the help of robotics technology. The Olympiad provides an opportunity to young minds from across the world come together and demonstrate their creativity and problem-solving skills to the whole world.

On this occasion, Director General of NCSM, AS Manekar, said: “We have been advocating hands-on, minds-on approach to learning and I believe this competition will spread awareness about Robotics education and build an ecosystem of STEM-based hands-on learning education in India.”

“It will be interesting to see students finding innovative ways of designing and programming autonomous robots to complete the task in lesser time.”

The theme ‘Rap the Scrap’ of this year’s event is in line with the Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Mission.

“We saw some great ideas in the preliminary rounds and hope to see even better solutions in the international finals. This event will be a great showcase of our future generations’ innovative thinking abilities.”

Sudhanshu Sharma, Co-Founder and CEO, India STEM Foundation said it is a matter of great pleasure for them to organize this event.

“This platform is a tremendous learning ground for students and will provide numerous opportunities to them to nurture for a lifetime,” he said.

The preliminary rounds of the Olympiad in India were held in Lucknow, Delhi, Tirupati, Chennai, Trivandrum, Varanasi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Guwahati, Surat, Bhopal, Mumbai, and Chandigarh from August to October 2016. About 245 teams from India took part in the National Championship that was held at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Kolkata. Out of those, twenty-seven teams qualified for WRO International Championship.
